product description
Benjamin Hoff, the author of the beloved "The Tao of Pooh," offers a new translation of the Tao Te Ching. His version reflects the meaning of the Chinese characters as they were used at the time of the book's composition over 2400 years ago. By doing so he believes he has eliminated ideas and interpretations that have crept in over the millennia and changed the original meaning of Lao-tzu's text. Despite the great gap in time between Lao-tzu and today, Hoff finds the work surprisingly modern. The author also has some provocative ideas about the identity of the sage, believing him to be a young nobleman rather than an old master. The text is illustrated with Hoff's color landscape photographs.
