Wrap Them Up!
The holidays and cold crisp weather usually coincide, so it's no wonder that some of our favorite gifts to give are scarves and wraps. At Whole Earth you'll find lots of items to surround your loved ones with warmth. Here are a few for your consideration plus a tip for using bandanas for wrapping gifts!
V. Fraas Women's Double Face Oversized Woven Cashmink Wrap Scarf
A generous wrap that can be elegantly draped over the shoulders or looped around the neck is a versatile piece for a woman's wardrobe. And this wrap is double faced: one side is a light ivory color and the other a light beige, so it will work with all sorts of colors and outfits. The V. Fraas Women's Double Face Oversized Woven Cashmink Wrap Scarf is made in Germany of very fine acrylic fibers that mimic the warmth and comfort of cashmere. The wrap measures 22in by 79in and can easily keep the chill away on cool evenings or you can wear it as a scarf in cold weather.
Pistil Women's Sucre Scarf
Add a rosy glow to your face when you wear the Pistil Women's Sucre Scarf. This multicolored striped scarf in muted tones not only adds visual warmth to your outfit, it wraps you in a soft, lightweight cloud of warmth on cold days. It's made in Italy of a blend of Acrylic and Wool for warmth and Polyamide for strength and durability. The scarf measures 11in by 87in, ample enough for double loops around the neck or for a longer, more free-flowing look.
Smartwool North Divide Scarf
Here's a man's scarf that not only looks good but will keep his neck warm on the bitterest of cold days. The Smartwool North Divide Scarf is made of a blend of 50% Merino Wool, 30% Nylon, and 20% Acrylic. The fine gauge plaited rib knit construction in two colors is soft to the skin and results in a double faced scarf. On one side the black ribs predominate and on the other side, the grey ribs. It's a classy scarf that can be dressed up or worn for everyday.
Smartwool Merino Sport Fleece Neck Gaiter
If you're exercising in cold weather, a neck gaiter is usually a better choice than a scarf. It pulls on over the head and covers the neck. The Smartwool Merino Sport Fleece Neck Gaiter has an added feature - the curved top hem covers the back of the neck and can cover the nose if needed. Made of a blend of 46% Polyester, 38% Merino Wool, and 16% Elastane, the soft brushed Merino Wool provides warmth next to your skin and the Polyester protects against the elements. The Elastane adds, you guessed it, elasticity!
Matr Boomie Upcycled Block Print Bandana
Bandanas are very useful items to keep close at hand. They're traditionally worn around the neck to keep off the sun and keep sweat corralled on the neck. They're also popular for keeping hair under control in windy conditions. But you may not have thought of a bandana as part of your Every Day Carry kit. A bandana is a good replacement for the less than environmentally sound tissues. After the bandana has been used, rather than adding to the trash like a tissue, toss it in the washer with your regular load and, presto, it's ready for use once again, and again, and again. Keep some stashed in a drawer or your bag to be deployed when needed.
We're partial to the Matr Boomie Upcycled Block Print Bandana. It's a fair trade item coming from Rajasthan in India where it is printed by hand on cotton. It supports community development and, as we mentioned, it's sustainable. Measuring 19in by 19in, it can be used in all the ways bandanas have traditionally been used. We also like this bandana as it makes a beautiful gift wrap. The Japanese have been using square pieces of cloth for wrapping for centuries, perhaps even millennia. While there are styles that add extra flair, the most basic version works like this.
Place the bandana face down on a table. Place the gift on an axis from one corner to its opposite.
Fold two opposite sides of the bandana over the item. If there is any excess material, fold it over on top of the item.
Neatly gather together the remaining edges tightening them around the edge of the gift. Tie the two ends together and tighten, then tie once more.
Shape the two tied ends into 'bunny ears' and admire your work. You're giving two gifts in one. Your gift and a sustainable bandana that can be used in many ways or reused as gift wrap.
Pendleton Falcon Cove Sunset Spa Towel
Here's one more gift that can wrap up someone you love: a soft beautiful Pendleton Spa Towel. Pendleton has been around since 1863 and is known for its quality goods. They're also famed for the beauty of their national park and Native American designs. Pendleton Falcon Cove Sunset Spa Towel was inspired by a hidden cove on the Oregon coast at sunset. It's made of 100% cotton, and the pattern is woven not printed, resulting in a two face design, one side velvety and the other looped for soaking up water. It measures 40in by 70in, and can be used as a luxurious bath towel or a beach towel, or both.
So if you're looking for a gift that will wrap your loved ones in warmth, we hope you'll check out our selection of wraps, scarves, neck gaiters, bandanas and Pendleton Spa Towels. We think any would be a welcome gift.
