Introducing Whole Earth Kids
In mid-February, Whole Earth Provision Co. will introduce our new Whole Earth Kids program. We created it as a fun way to introduce children to some basic concepts about the natural world. Each month we’ll briefly explore a new theme, and offer games and projects, as well as suggestions for further learning experiences. We’ll also highlight a Whole Earth Hero – a person who has made a difference in how we approach life on planet Earth.
You can pick up a copy of the Whole Earth Kids Activity Booklet at our Whole Earth stores. The program is for children 12 and under. When your child has completed the Activity Booklet (younger children may need your help), bring it to your nearest Whole Earth store, take it to the register, and your child will receive a $5 coupon that can be used in the store.
Our topic for February is recycling. The activities include word search and sorting puzzles, coloring and drawing. Our Whole Earth Hero is Zhenan Bao of Stanford University who is working to solve a particularly important problem in recycling – electronic waste.
Our future topics and Heroes will include
- March - Spring Teddy Roosevelt
- April - Bugs Edwards O. Wilson
- May - Animals Archie Carr
- June - Trees Wangari Maathai
- July - Body Diane Wilson
- August - Water Rachel Carson
- September - Clouds Mary Oliver
- October - Rocks John Muir
- November - Fall Henry David Thoreau
- December - Stars H.A. Rey
