Gifts for 2020 Grads
The Class of 2020 has had a memorable ride on their way to a diploma. Stay-at-home orders, online classes, and the cancellation of traditional events like senior proms and graduation ceremonies have marked the end of this chapter in their lives.
In the past we would look to a graduate’s future plans as a guide for choosing that special gift. Would they be continuing their education, launching a career or taking time off for a gap year? While our 2020 graduates’ futures are more uncertain, we can still find gifts that will bring delight and are useful no matter the graduate’s future plans. Here are a few of our favorites.
A YETI Rambler is hard to beat for keeping drinks hot or cold. Made of tough kitchen grade stainless steel, it’s ready for years of use. And with the addition of the Chug Cap, the Rambler can be transformed from a wide mouth bottle into a narrow mouth bottle with a quick twist. The Rambler, Chug Cap and lid are dishwasher safe, unlike many insulated bottles. (Pro hint: be sure to remove the gasket from the lid for an extra deep clean.) With a YETI water bottle you can help your graduate be environmentally conscious (no more plastic water bottles!) and be refreshed wherever they go.
A pair of quality sunglasses is a gift that keeps on giving for years. If your graduate spends time outdoors, sunglasses with polarized lenses both protect the eyes from harmful rays and provide a crisp, glare-free view. Costa’s Tuna Alley sunglasses are a necessity for boating and water sports. And if your graduate lives in Texas or any place where the sun is bright for most of the year, first class sunglasses are a must for driving and almost any outdoor activity.
Whether your graduate is off to school or off to work, a laptop bag is an excellent choice for a memorable gift. The Thule Crossover 2 Laptop Bag has multiple features that set it apart. With its dedicated padded space for a laptop up to 15.6 inches, it can also expand an extra 2.5 inches in width for additional packing space. The molded front panel has spaces for small electronics and accessories as well as an RFID protected pocket. With multiple carrying options plus Thule’s clean modern styling, this is a laptop bag that will be used with pride.
The ENO DoubleDeluxe Hammock offers a grad a great combination of fun and utility. This double wide hammock is an excellent addition for a day in the park, day hikes or backpacking trips. It packs small and can be deployed speedily when a beautiful view sends an invitation to stop, kick back and enjoy the moment. And with securely installed anchor bolt hangers, the DoubleDeluxe also feels right at home on a balcony or as impromptu guest bed indoors.
If your graduate isn’t ready for a full toolbox (where would they put it?), what about a multi tool? The Leatherman OHT Multi Tool combines 16 tools in one including pliers, blades, assorted screwdrivers, a can opener, bottle opener and more. OHT stands for one handed tool, so the pliers and wire cutters are spring-loaded. It’s compact, measuring 4.5 x 1.5 x .75 inches and can easily fit into a pocket, a glove compartment, backpack or bag, ready for use when needed. And it’s proudly designed and manufactured in Oregon.
These are just a few of our gift suggestions for graduates. They’ve worked hard, and while their moment in the spotlight has been canceled or delayed, let them know how impressed you are with all they have accomplished.
