Get Dirty with Dovetail!
While you were hunting for holidays gifts at Whole Earth, you may have noticed a new brand in our women's clothing department - Dovetail Workwear. Dovetail makes work clothing for women who need tough pants that can stand up to the wear and tear of rugged jobs in the trades, the arts, and outdoors. In short, jobs and adventures where the odds are good that dirt will be involved.
For years women have had to make do wearing work clothes designed for men that didn't fit well or regular jeans that weren't tough enough for the job and wore out quickly. Some traditional workwear brands have begun making clothing for women, but with a decided lack of style. Dovetail Workwear was created by the fortuitous meeting of landscapers Kate Day and Kyle Marie Summers with Sara DeLuca, an apparel industry expert. The three decided to design and produce Dovetail's first pants to fill the gap in performance and good looks in women's workwear. Today, they make work clothes for women, by women.
Dovetail's first offering was extensively field tested by women who work as bike mechanics and construction workers as well as artists and firefighters. Their input helped hone Dovetail Workwear's fit, function and durability. These pants are made specifically for women's bodies. The fit includes a mid-rise contoured waist, stretch fabrics for bending, and a comfortable cut for multiple body types.
Dovetail Workwear pants are pocket savvy. No more looking around for the tool you need. Dovetail pants have lots of deep, functional pockets placed in the correct spots to be useful. You'll have the tools you need at hand ready for use. Dovetail pants also have a gusseted crotch. Gussets add extra room and strength to pants, as well as providing ease of movement.
You'll have a surprising range of fabrics to choose from: midweight stretch and midweight high-stretch denim, heavy duty stretch duck canvas, and lightweight cotton stretch ripstop. All are field and abrasion tested. Dovetail pants have reinforced panels in high stress areas like the knee, thigh, and rear cuff, plus rivets at key stress points. These pants are made to last!

Dovetail Workwear Women's Freshley Overalls
Here's a pair of overalls that are feminine, stretchy in all the right places, and flattering. Made with a midweight stretch denim, Freshley Overalls are designed for a woman's body. They're slim enough to feel flattering but loose enough for lots of movement. With thirteen pockets to choose from, you can find a place to put just about anything you need to have close at hand. There's a zippered pocket on the leg for a phone where it's easy to reach and doesn't get in the way. There's also a hidden zippered pocket in the bib. The suspenders have elastic on the back so you can pull them off over your shoulder rather than having to undo them. Take your Freshly Overalls hiking, on dog walks or wear them for lounging at home. They're that comfortable. Please note: if you already have a pair of Dovetail pants, your sizing may be different for the overalls.
Dovetail Workwear Women's Christa DIY Pants
If the idea of working in your sweatpants sounds appealing, the Christa DIY Pants may be just what you're looking for. They're pull-on pants with seven pockets, double-layered knees, a hammer loop and made of a sturdy midweight high-stretch performance denim. The fabric is a blend of 76% cotton, 2% spandex and 22% recycled polyester, made from recycled plastic bottles, eight per pair of pants. The soft elastic waistband is comfortable and won't dig into your waist like most jeans when bending down. The leg has a relaxed fit but will sit snuggly over boots to keep your feet debris free. The Christa DIY are good cool weather pants, but may be too warm for working or hiking outdoors in hot weather.
Dovetail Workwear Women's Britt Utility Pants
The Britt Utility pants are Dovetail's most technical offering. They have a straight leg, reinforced articulated knees with a slot for pads, and reinforced rear cuffs. The fabric is a heavy-duty stretch duck canvas made of a tough 99% cotton with 1% spandex for stretch. They may feel somewhat snug at first, but will relax and soften with wear and washings. The Britt Utility with its mid-rise waist is flattering and durable, not bulky like some women's workwear pants can be. There are eleven pockets, including a zippered one in the back to keep your ID, cards and cash secure, and a tool loop. The gusseted crotch provides extra freedom of movement and removes the fear of splitting your pants at the seams. As Dovetail says, crouch without the ouch! Britt Utility pants are available in 30inch and 32inch inseams.
Dovetail Workwear Women's Day Construct Pants
If you're going to be outdoors working or hiking in warm weather, take a look at the Dovetail's Day Construct Pant. They're made of a lightweight cotton ripstop that blends 97.5% cotton with 2.5% spandex for breathability and stretch. These quick drying pants have a mid-rise waist with a higher back, a wide waistband with a double button closure, a relaxed leg silhouette, and reinforced knees and rear cuffs. The Day Construct has eleven pockets including one zippered pocket. There's a design detail you need to keep in mind when pocketing your cellphone. The tool loop and the pocket most likely to be used for the phone are quite close together. A few women have put their phone through the tool loop thinking they were putting it into the pocket resulting in the phone landing on the ground. Think of it as an opportunity to practice mindfulness. The Day Construct is available in 30inch and 32inch inseams.
So whether you're looking for a pair of tough pants to stand up to a rugged job or to outdoor adventures, check out Dovetail Workwear at Whole Earth. It's workwear made for women who get dirty at work or at play.
