One of their most important raw materials is cork. The cork layer of a Cork Oak can he harvested again and again without harming the tree. Birkenstock was also one of the first shoe manufacturers to use water-soluble and solvent free adhesives. They use natural latex as the principle binding agent in the production of the footbed and renewable jute to stabilize it.
