SmartWool Limited Edition Charley Harper Christmas Ornaments!

SmartWool Limited Edition Charley Harper Christmas Ornaments!

Charley Harper was an American original. He combined his love of nature with a modernist art aesthetic to create iconic images of birds and wildlife that are as fresh today as when they were created in the mid-20th century. Using the fewest possible visual elements, Harper captured the essence of his subjects. His work has been growing in popularity for the past ten years and Whole Earth Provision Co. customers will have seen his work in books, puzzles and calendars in our stores. Among our favorites is the collection of limited edition Charley Harper socks created by SmartWool. The elegant geometries and vibrant colors of Harper’s art translate beautifully into SmartWool socks. And this holiday season, SmartWool is offering a gift, a Cardinal Christmas ornament, with a Charley Harper SmartWool purchase of $60 or more. Supplies are limited so please don’t wait to stock up your sock drawer or to pick out those special holiday gifts!

Saturday and Sunday, April 25th and 26th for the Hari Mari Flip Your Flips event. Hari Mari will see to it that the flips are either repurposed or their materials recycled, keeping them out of the landfill. Hair Mari Flip Flops

Hari Mari comes from Hari – sun in Indonesian, and Mari – (mare) sea in Latin. These flips are made for fun in the sun and on the water. They’re constructed with premium materials and come in rainbow colors with intensities ranging from pastels to neon. Made with carbon-free rubber outsoles, they’re non-marking, boat safe, and help to improve grip on wet surfaces. For added comfort, they also offer memory foam toe posts that reduce toe abrasion and do away with uncomfortable break-in periods.

Practicing good corporate citizenship, Hari Mari has created several programs that benefit the Earth and groups in need. Their Zero Landfill Initiative is helping to keep flip flops out of our landfills. Coordinating with Soles4Soles, they have donated over 6,000 pairs of repurposed flip flops to children and families in Haiti and Honduras. They also support pediatric cancer patients with their Flops Fighting Cancer program. For each pair of Hari Mari flips sold, $3 is donated to help families-in-need to pay for expensive medical treatments, medicines and hospital costs.

So please stop by your favorite Whole Earth store on April 25th and 26th, drop off your old flip flops and get a coupon for 15% off a new pair of Hari Mari flips.* It’s a triple play of goodness for the Earth, pediatric cancer patients and your feet!

* Only one coupon per pair may be applied towards the purchase of a new pair of Hari Mari flips. In stock only. This offer cannot be combined with other discount or membership cards.

GoPro Hero4 – In Stores Now!

GoPro - Be a Hero

Nick Woodway wanted a camera he could strap to his wrist while riding the waves. With it, he could capture his exploits on film and share them with his fellow surfers and landlubber friends. Since such a camera didn’t exist, he made one, using a Kodak disposable camera, rubber bands and Velcro. Woodway’s creation became the progenitor of today’s GoPro camera. Fast forward to 2014, and Whole Earth is proud to announce the arrival of the newest members of the GoPro family, the Hero4, Black and Silver.

GoPro Hero4 Black

The Hero4 Black is the most advanced GoPro camera ever. It features improved image quality and a 2x more powerful processor with 2x faster video frame rates. With high resolution 4K30 and high frame rate 1080p120 video, you can record your world in stunning, immersive detail.

GoPro Hero4 Silver

The Hero4 Silver is the first GoPro camera to feature a built-in touch display. Controlling the camera, playing back footage and adjusting settings are all easily done – just view, tap and swipe the screen. With 4K15 and1080p60 and 720p120 video and 12MP photos at 30 frames per second, this camera combines powerful, professional quality capture with the convenience of a touch display.

Hero4 Black and Silver are both durable and waterproof to 131 feet, have built in WiFi and Bluetooth, have night, low light and time-lapse settings, ultra wide-angle lenses and both are compatible with all GoPro mounts. In short, the difference between the two is this: Hero4 Black offers high performance video capture features that are not found on the Hero4 Silver. The Silver offers a built-in touch display that is not found on the Black. Two cameras. Two fabulous choices.

Vincent Laforet recently wrote a blog post assessing the GoPro’s place in the history of cameras and photography. “Very few cameras have had as large of an impact on the evolution of image capturing as the GoPro. …It has singlehandedly re-defined the way the average person interacts with photography and film and how they capture important and ‘everyday’ moments in their life – from motorcycle rides across the planet to videos of their pets’ POV.” We’re living in a digital world and it’s easier now than ever before, with the help of GoPro, to capture your world and share it with others. Go forth and create!

bucketfeet believes that art is for everyone, particularly art that you can wear, on your feet! They collaborate with artists around the world and here in Texas to create canvas shoes for men and women, designed with bold patterns and colors.

The first pair of bucketfeet was created by the chance meeting of an artist and a backpacker. The resulting pair of hand-decorated shoes inspired thousands of conversations with amazing people on six continents and powerfully demonstrated the power of art to bring people together. And so bucketfeet was born – artist designed canvas shoes made to bring beauty and connection wherever they go. 2014 Zilker Kite Festival and Day in the Park Raffle

Kite Festival Raffle

Austin’s festival season takes off on Sunday, March 9th with the 86th annual Zilker Kite Festival in Austin’s Zilker Park. This year’s gathering of kites and fliers includes a kite making workshop, kite flying demonstrations and contests for the most unusual, the steadiest, the highest angle, the strongest pulling and the largest and smallest kites, a kids’ 50 yard dash with a flying kite, and a prize for the oldest and youngest contestants. The Festival ends with a spectacular mass ascent of kites filling the sky above the Great Lawn.

Whole Earth Provision Co. is joining in the fun with a Day in the Park raffle. The package, valued at over $400, includes a Yucatan hammock and hammock stand, a Sport Brella, and a Pirate Ship Kite. Tickets can be purchased through March 6th at the three Austin Whole Earth stores and at the Kite Festival on March 9th. You do not have to be present to win. Tickets are $5 each or five for $20. Proceeds from the raffle will benefit Communities in Schools.

Communities in Schools is a Central Texas non-profit that offers help to children facing crises and significant barriers to education such as hunger, poverty, unattended health needs and domestic violence. Created in 1985, Communities in Schools places professional full-time staff on campuses to work closely with school personnel to provide and coordinate an array of social services. These include individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, mentoring, tutoring, school readiness initiatives, child abuse protection, leadership development and enrichment activities. In 2013, Communities in Schools could be found in 60 schools in seven districts in Travis, Hays, Caldwell and Bastrop counties.

The Zilker Kite Festival was launched by the Exchange Club of Austin back in 1929 as an opportunity for children and the community to come together for some shared fun and creativity. Now in its 86th year, the Festival is the oldest continuously run kite festival in the country.

If you’re in need of a kite for the event, stop by your favorite Whole Earth store. We have kites for beginners as well as sport and stunt kites. And don’t forget to download a copy of our Kite Flyer’s Field Guide for Judging Wind Speed.

We’ll see you soon at Zilker!
