Doors open 1 1/2 hours before films

The Banff Mountain Film Festival world tour dates for Texas are May 3, 4, and 5, 2009. This extraordinary group of films – hosted by Whole Earth Provision Company for the fourth consecutive year – all include mountain themes and typically involve a wide variety of high-adrenalin “sports” activities, set in beautiful, often exotic places, with a healthy portion of cultural storylines thrown in for good measure.

For the first time the Festival is expanding to a San Antonio venue for one night (May 3rd). The Empire Theatre in the heart of old San Antone will kickoff this year’s presentation. On May 4th and 5th the scene shifts to Austin’s Paramount Theatre. The films known as the “World Tour” will be shown in San Antonio on the 3rd and in Austin on the 4th. The group called “Radical Reels” will be shown on the 5th and contains an even higher level of action / adventure films for one night only.

The Texas edition of the film festival is presented to benefit two world class organizations. The proceeds from the Austin shows will be donated to Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve; while in San Antonio the proceeds will be donated to Last Chance Forever, The Bird of Prey Conservancy. Whole Earth is proud to support both these fine groups.

TICKET INFORMATION:

For a single night ticket the cost is $20.00. For both the World Tour and Radical Reels shown in Austin, the cost is $35.00 when purchased together. For students with a valid school ID the costs are $16.00 for one and $30.00 for the two nights. As of event-day, tickets are no longer available for the shows at Whole Earth Provision Co. locations, only at the Paramount Theatre box office and on-line through www.Gettix.net.

Tickets for the San Antonio showing of the World Tour are $20.00 for adults and $16.00 for students with a valid school ID. These tickets are available now at the Majestic/Charline McCombs Empire Theatre box office and at our Quarry Market store in San Antonio. The adult tickets are also available on-line through ticketmaster.

Seating is General Admission, so come early to get a good seat and to visit with some really unique non-profit organizations. You’ll also want to browse through a wonderful group of manufacturers of fine outdoor gear and clothing. Those who have attended in previous years know that some very cool giveaways and door prizes are part of the evening’s fun as well.

NEW BENEFICIARIES OF THE BANFF FESTIVAL PROCEEDS

Whole Earth is very proud to announce the beneficiaries for the 2009 Banff Mountain Film Festival proceeds. Last Chance Forever, the Bird of Prey Conservancy has been selected to be the recipient of  the San Antonio edition of the Festival and Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve is similarly chosen for the Austin event proceeds. Last year’s Festival earned nearly $13,000 that was shared by Austin Parks Foundation and TreeFolks, Inc. We hope to do as well this year.

Last Chance Forever receives sick, injured, and orphaned birds of prey. Their mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and release back into the wild, hawks, owls, eagles, falcons, and vultures. Furthermore, they understand that education is the key to making a larger impact in the world and support this belief with public education programming about raptors and practical environmentalism. Since 1978 they have helped literally thousands of raptors, while presenting their programs to more than one-half million people per year.

Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve was founded in 1974 to protect 227 acres of Texas Hill Country on the western edge of Austin. They maintain over three miles of hiking trails and host a variety of events for both children and adults. Collaboration between Wild Basin and St Edward’s University enables the creation of programs and initiatives that preserves this urban wilderness.

Let’s all assist these two fine organizations continue to provide their valuable services.
